Plan a suitable motorcycle hire
A short trial hire, a mountain-pass ride and a longer trip call for different features. The bike must fit your licence, be manageable and have clearly defined rental terms. Compare the complete planned use rather than a headline starting price.
Choose for the intended use
Riding position, weight when manoeuvring, luggage and a possible passenger affect suitability. State the type and any familiar models without relying solely on brand or engine size. Advice may identify several suitable alternatives.
| Use | What to agree |
|---|---|
| Short ride | Manageability and actual time window |
| Tour with luggage | Cases, load and attachment |
| Learner riding / test preparation | Licence category and permitted use |
| Several motorcycles | Requirements and licences for each bike |
Check licence and rental acceptance
A suitable licence category is necessary to ride; rental acceptance is a separate check. Switzerland calls the restricted motorcycle category A 35 kW. Foreign terminology or a learner permit must be checked for the particular bike and use.
For the initial enquiry, give the category and mention a learner or foreign licence where relevant. Document numbers, copies and health information are unnecessary. Required checks still need to happen before collection.
Agree timing and pickup
Give the start and actual hours needed, even for a short hire. Half-days, weekends and separate days may be billed differently. Confirm collection, return times and any different return point; it is not automatically available.
Compare equivalent offers
Compare total hire, included distance and required accessories under equivalent protection and timing. One supplier’s model prices are not national tariffs and do not establish the complete cost without their terms.
| Item | What to clarify |
|---|---|
| Period | Billing unit and late return |
| Mileage | Allowance, excess and unused distance |
| Equipment | Helmet, clothing, cases and condition |
| Protection | Third-party cover, bike damage, excess |
| Deposit | Security amount and accepted payment |
Route and permitted use
Estimate the whole distance and name planned countries. Obtain explicit agreement for uses such as a test, event or unpaved routes. Hiring a touring or sports bike does not automatically permit every associated use.
Treat equipment as part of the hire
State what you bring and what you want to rent. Helmet and protective clothing must fit; a photograph does not establish included accessories. Check case mounts and space so luggage and a passenger can be accommodated together.
Familiarisation and return
Before riding, check condition, existing damage, controls and accessories with the supplier. Correct the initial report if anything is missing. Agree fuel, cleaning and breakdown or damage procedures. An out-of-hours return needs agreed documentation.
Prepare a concrete hire enquiry
List type, licence category, number, start, hours, distance and locations. Briefly add models, equipment, driver ages and countries. Compare written offers and clarify changes or cancellation before booking. For mixed bikes, give numbers and needs by type.
Frequently asked questions
Can I rent with a learner permit?
It depends on the appropriate category, intended use and supplier acceptance. Describe your status without uploading documents; blanket acceptance cannot be promised.
Is A2 a Swiss licence category?
The Swiss restricted category is A 35 kW. Some offers use foreign terminology. Have the vehicle and your actual entitlement checked together.
Are a helmet and luggage cases included?
Only when explicitly included in the quote. State your own and hired equipment, then confirm sizes and mounting.
How far may I ride?
The agreed package applies. Compare total planned distance, included mileage and excess charges; unused mileage is not automatically refundable.
Is a short hire possible?
State the actual hours needed. Availability and charging must be confirmed; a short ride does not guarantee an equivalent hourly rate.
May another person ride the bike?
Only under the agreed rider and protection terms. Name additional riders before booking so entitlement, contract and insurance align.
