Hiring mobile heating: choosing a suitable temporary solution

A room heater differs from a heating centre for a building. Use, heat required, duration and connections matter. Delivery, commissioning and ongoing energy belong in a fair comparison too.

Distinguish room heating from replacement heating

Room heaters provide heat directly to an area. A mobile heating centre can connect to a suitable water-based system. Hot water needs an appropriate solution; a radiant room heater does not replace hot-water production.

Floor area alone does not determine capacity

Height, insulation, open building sections and outside temperature change demand. A hall or tent is not equivalent to a home of the same area. State known area and use rather than calculating capacity from a blanket rule.

On a construction site, building stage, materials and planned work matter. Heating and dehumidifying are different tasks. A heater alone does not establish completed drying or a floor’s readiness for covering.

Have connections and positioning assessed

Electrical supply needs to match the device. A domestic socket is not automatically suitable for every hired heater. A heating centre also needs system connections, a position and potentially fuel supply.

Leave sizing, connection and safe positioning to the appropriate professionals. Clarify local requirements, exhaust arrangements, surroundings and notifications. Unknown details can remain open initially; you need not produce a permit or safety assessment yourself.

Define duration, extensions and return

State the preferred start and approximate duration. Clarify minimum hire, partial-day charging and extensions. Cost may depend on whether hire ends at notification, collection or actual return.

During a heating changeover, coordinate permanent and temporary supply. Availability, transport and connection determine when heat is ready. A request or general express promise does not guarantee every installation date.

Agree operation and support

Agree monitoring, fuel replenishment and fault response. Remote monitoring, servicing and on-call support may have different scopes. Energy and replenishment are not automatically included in hire.

At handover, have operation, agreed settings and contacts explained clearly. Changes to connections or technical equipment are not improvised customer tasks. Record responsibilities and costs of additional visits.

Compare the total hire cost

As a narrow example, a regional Swiss business publishes CHF 6 per day for a 5 kW electric heater and CHF 36 for 14.4–21.6 kW, excluding VAT. Delivery and collection are on request. These undated device prices are not total costs or a Swiss average; electrical requirements and energy costs need separate agreement.

Start with known information

Use, approximate size, duration, location and known connections help a suitable quote. The hire specialist establishes the technical solution. You need not select from a catalogue or calculate the complete heat load alone.

Frequently asked questions

Does a room heater also provide hot water?

Not automatically. Direct room heating and hot-water supply are different solutions. State the actual need.

Must I know the required heating capacity?

No. Known area, use and surroundings are enough to start. The specialist determines capacity.

Is energy included in hire?

Only if agreed. Electricity, fuel and replenishment should be separate from device hire.

Will any socket work?

No. Supply and protection must suit the equipment. Have technical uncertainties assessed.

Can hire be extended?

Clarify availability, terms and billing. Extension at the same price or for every date is not automatically guaranteed.

How are setup and return organised?

Agree delivery, suitable position, professional connections and operating instructions. Coordinate removal and collection with the provider at the end. Record accessories, condition and possible cleaning charges; the equipment price covers these services only if expressly included.
