Hiring an air conditioner: cooling, setup and costs
Area and daily price alone are not enough. Heat must leave the area being cooled; supply, positioning and condensate form part of the solution. A suitable quote matches those conditions to use and duration.
Distinguish monoblock and mobile split systems
A monoblock exhausts warm air through a duct. A split system has separate units and a designed connection. Arrangement and possible routes determine setup; mobile does not mean suitable everywhere without planning.
| Solution | Clarify |
|---|---|
| Monoblock | Exhaust route, window arrangement and condensate. |
| Mobile split system | Outdoor position, connection route and suitable configuration. |
| Larger temporary cooling | Demand, distribution and suitable integration. |
Consider cooling demand beyond floor area
Sun, glazing, height, occupants and equipment change heat load. A home, office and server room of equal area do not automatically need equal capacity. State known use and size; the specialist determines sizing.
For servers or sensitive processes, known heat output, target temperature and operating needs matter. Comfort air conditioning does not automatically guarantee reliable cooling for critical equipment. Support and fault response should match the use.
Clarify heat rejection and outdoor space
A possible window or door route is not a finished installation. The contractor assesses routing, sealing, height differences and equipment limits. An existing ventilation duct is not automatically suitable for exhaust.
An outdoor unit needs suitable space, access, protection and surroundings. Coordinate with the owner or manager where needed. Connection lengths and outdoor positioning are equipment-specific, not universal mobile-unit features.
Account for condensate, power and noise
Depending on the unit, condensate is collected, drained or handled differently. Clarify what needs monitoring during hire. A pump or evaporation feature does not mean every unit requires no attention.
Cooling output and electrical input are different figures. Connections and protection need suitable assessment. Noise and position matter in bedrooms, offices and events. Compare sound figures with their measurement distance and operating state.
Agree start, duration and return
Clarify minimum hire, partial days, extensions and return times. Brief use does not automatically mean one charged day. Confirm availability and terms for seasonal hire.
Delivery, setup, instruction and return transport are separate tasks. Agree who handles them and end-of-hire cleaning or dismantling. A hire price alone does not establish a complete installation.
Compare hire price and complete cost
As a narrow example, an undated Swiss hire list offers an exhaust-duct unit at CHF 17 per day excluding VAT. Minimum hire, short-hire surcharges, accessories, transport and electricity still need agreement. This is one business’s device price, not a Swiss average or a binding price for your cooling.
| Item | Compare |
|---|---|
| Hire | Unit, accessories, duration and minimum charging. |
| Setup | Delivery, connections, sealing and instruction. |
| Operation | Energy, condensate and agreed support. |
| Return | Dismantling, transport, cleaning, VAT and exclusions. |
Information to start with
Describe the area, known size and duration and possible routes outdoors. For technical use, describe known requirements together. You need not choose a refrigerant or produce an installation certificate yourself.
Frequently asked questions
Is a route outdoors needed?
Heat needs a suitable rejection arrangement. Depending on equipment, this involves an exhaust duct, outdoor unit or another system. Have routing assessed.
Must I choose a model?
No. Use, area and known conditions help the specialist select equipment.
Is cooling output the same as electricity use?
No. They are different figures. Compare sizing and electrical supply separately.
Are delivery and setup included?
Only if agreed. Accessories, transport, setup and return should be identifiable in the quote.
Can I request cooling for a server room?
Yes. State technical use and known requirements. The specialist clarifies capacity, operating conditions and support; a general comfort solution is not automatically sufficient.
Who provides support if a fault occurs?
Have the contact, hours and included support confirmed. Replacement equipment, extra visits and setup changes may be separate services. Describe observed problems; agree repair, interventions and any necessary alternative with the contractor.
