An illuminated sign combines visual design with a technical installation at a specific site. A new inscription, a replacement face and a fault investigation are different jobs. Comparable quotes need the intended appearance, fixing, connection and future service access in the brief.

Say whether you need a new sign made, an existing installation altered, a supplied sign fitted or a fault investigated. For existing signs, the known model, age and observed problem help. Dark letters alone do not establish that a power supply has failed.

Count complete signs rather than individual lamps. Several sites or versions can share one list with wording, dimensions and quantity for each. The job does not automatically book an advertising site or the delivery of digital content.

A lightbox presents a continuous surface; individual letters can illuminate their faces or cast a halo on the wall. A freestanding sign needs a different arrangement from facade lettering. Assess the appearance by day and in darkness from the actual viewing directions.

Letter size, contrast, background and mounting distance affect legibility. A visualisation helps decisions but does not replace an agreed sample when colour or light appearance is critical. Describe preferences without having to select technical components yourself.

Give the overall width and height of the main sign. Unknown measurements can be surveyed before manufacture; other formats belong in the shared list. Check the available space, concealed cable routes and future access to service components.

State indoor or outdoor use, mounting height and surface. Clarify owner consent and local advertising requirements before committing to execution. A fitting offer does not grant permission for the site; rules can differ by municipality and road context.

Describe opening hours, intended lighting periods and sensitive neighbours such as residential windows. The light should suit its surroundings. Dimming and scheduled switching may form part of the plan; permitted settings must be checked for the particular site.

An LED design is not automatically free from glare or suitable for any continuous operating pattern. Ask about operation and controls for the proposed system. General performance claims do not replace assessment of the actual light or its operating instructions.

Agree supply only or installation included. Existing power provision, cable routes, access equipment and work on the mounting surface need coordination. With a supplied sign, check that fixings, power supply and controls are complete and compatible.

Fixed connections and changes to an electrical installation belong in the appropriate work scope and must be carried out by suitably authorised contractors. Agree who will handle that part. Do not open or alter a faulty sign to prepare a request.

Compare the same construction, dimensions, quantities, light effect and finish. Design, samples, structure, controls, transport, fitting, electrical work and removal of an old sign can be separate items. A low manufacturing price does not always include a working installation.

Choose the lowest suitable total execution cost that meets quality and deadline. Include your own coordination, access equipment and later service and replacement parts. Unknown transport and your own work are not free; have inclusions and exclusions set out in writing.

Ask which parts will remain accessible and replaceable and how cleaning or service will be arranged. Maintenance depends on the particular construction and environment. A general yearly interval or blanket lifespan does not suit every sign.

At handover check wording, alignment, even appearance and agreed switching functions. Record operation, responsibilities, documents and remaining work. For repairs, distinguish what was examined, corrected or remains unresolved.

Confirm design and production after the location and technical scope have been coordinated.

  1. Brief. Describe the job, wording, quantity, dimensions and use.
  2. Checks. Coordinate the site, light, permissions, access and connection.
  3. Approval. Confirm execution, total price, responsibilities and deadline.
  4. Handover. Check installation, function, documents and outstanding items.

One shared description also works for several versions. The supplier can then clarify the unresolved technical points.

  • Job. New manufacture, alteration, supplied-sign fitting, service or removal.
  • Signs. Actual quantity, main dimensions and different versions.
  • Use. Construction, wording, site, lighting times and existing sign.
  • Handover. Supply or work on site, connection scope and deadline.
Does an illuminated sign always need permission?

It depends on the location and local rules. Clarify owner consent and required permissions before execution; a quote is not site approval.

Is power connection included in fitting?

Not automatically. Specify fixing, wiring, connection, commissioning and responsibilities in the offer.

Can an existing sign be converted to LED?

The actual construction needs assessment. Housing, light effect, existing components and service access influence the suitable solution.

Must I diagnose a fault technically?

No. Describe observed failures or changes and known sign details. Technical assessment belongs in the service job.

Can the sign stay on all night?

Operating and switching times need site-specific clarification. The actual system must also be confirmed suitable for the intended operating pattern.

Can I request a small custom format?

Give the real dimensions. Manufacture, legibility and safe fixing must be assessed for that format; a shop minimum is not universal.
