Specify tyre storage and compare complete offers
A storage space alone does not explain how your tyres will be identified, inspected and returned. State the individual tyres or wheels, the intended period and how they reach the store. This makes basic storage comparable with a package that includes cleaning or a seasonal change.
Identify tyres, wheels and quantities
Count the actual items rather than assuming a set of four wheels. Two motorcycle tyres, a single spare wheel or eight wheels for two vehicles require different offers. For several vehicles, briefly match each model with its tyre size.
| Stored items | What the quote needs |
|---|---|
| Tyres without rims | Item count, size and visible special features |
| Complete wheels | Tyres on rims; mention known sensors and allocation |
| Mixed inventory | Describe the total and the allocation per vehicle |
Agree the period and retrieval
A “season” is a provider’s charging basis, not an identical duration everywhere. Ask when it starts, how much time is included and what late retrieval costs. For a longer vehicle lay-up, extensions and interim retrieval matter as much as the initial storage price.
Separate storage conditions from tyre condition
A suitable store protects tyres from damaging surroundings and selects storage methods for the tyres and rims involved. The detailed arrangement is the provider’s responsibility. Record existing damage or uneven wear at intake; storage does not make a damaged tyre fit for use again.
Order additional services explicitly
Cleaning, tread checks and identification may be included or separately charged. Wheel swapping, balancing and tyre fitting are separate jobs. A notice that replacement may be needed is not permission to buy new tyres; agree how additional work is approved.
Clarify transport, identification and release
Explain whether you deliver loose tyres or complete wheels, or the workshop takes them during an agreed wheel change. When changing stores, arrange release from the previous provider and transport separately. Collection from a basement or garage needs the location and access details; collection is not included in every offer.
Compare the complete storage cost
Compare the same item count and storage period. With package prices, check how smaller or larger inventories, unusual wheel sizes and early retrieval are charged. Mentioning insurance without its terms does not establish cover, excess or liability limits.
| Cost item | Comparison question |
|---|---|
| Storage | For how many items and exactly what period? |
| Cleaning and checks | Which work and condition records are included? |
| Transport and return | Are transport, retrieval and wheel changing charged separately? |
| Contract terms | How do extension, cancellation and any cover work? |
From quotation to organised return
Check these points together before accepting. Keep the confirmation and inventory identification so retrieval does not depend on memory or an incomplete description.
- 1. Describe the inventory. State counts, rims, sizes and vehicle allocation.
- 2. Confirm intake. Record the period, condition and additional work ordered.
- 3. Plan retrieval. Agree notice, date, transport and any extension.
Frequently asked questions
Can I store just one or two tyres?
You can request that quantity. The quote should show per-item or package charging; a usual set of four is not a universal minimum.
Can I store bare tyres and complete wheels in one order?
Describe both groups and their counts. The provider confirms which items it accepts and how they are identified and stored.
Is the next tyre or wheel change included?
Not automatically. Ask for storage, wheel swapping, tyre fitting and balancing to be itemised as required.
What if the storage period becomes longer?
Agree extensions, the new charging period and retrieval deadlines. Open-ended storage needs a clear charging rule.
Are my wheels insured during storage?
That depends on the contract. Ask about covered risks, liability limits, excess and the damage procedure.
Can a new provider take over tyres already in storage?
Request the transfer and arrange release from the previous store. Clarify transport, intake timing and any old contract charges separately.
