Plan meal preparation: food, shopping and costs
Meal preparation support helps with everyday household cooking, preparing meals ahead or cooking together. For a personalised menu planned and prepared by a chef, choose the private chef service. For cooking assistance, specify the dishes and tasks you want; agree labour, ingredients and storage separately.
Define the result per visit
Should food be served straight away or portioned for later days? Cooking together also needs agreement on who does what. Describe meals and when they should be ready. Delivery or event catering is not automatically included.
| Task | Result |
|---|---|
| Cook fresh | Meal at the agreed time |
| Batch preparation | Portions, containers and storage |
| Cook together | Responsibilities and support needed |
Count people and meals separately
Give the actual number of people and different meals per visit. Three meals for four people differ from one meal for four. One shared description can explain varying quantities or preferences.
Discuss the everyday dishes you want, preferences and ingredients to avoid. Cooking assistance does not automatically include nutritional advice or clinical care. Information needed for safe work can be agreed privately later; the enquiry does not need health records.
Arrange shopping and ingredient costs
Clarify who supplies ingredients and shops. A list prevents duplicate purchases. Agree receipts, substitutions and unavailable ingredients. Shopping, travel and food may be separate costs.
Check existing supplies and storage space. Chilled food needs suitable handling in transit and in the kitchen. Unknown ingredient costs should not be treated as included in the labour price.
Describe the available kitchen
Hob, oven, fridge, workspace and cookware affect what can be prepared on site. Mention known limitations and available containers. The enquiry does not need a full appliance inventory; briefly describe practical equipment.
Agree access, working times and the kitchen’s final condition. Washing used utensils differs from general domestic cleaning. Extensive tidying before cooking changes the required time.
Plan preparation and storage together
Clean hands and surfaces, sufficient heating and separation of raw and cooked food support careful preparation. Perishable food needs suitable chilling. For prepared meals, agree containers, storage and reheating instructions.
A blanket shelf-life promise cannot fit every dish. Ingredients, preparation and storage conditions differ. Follow specific storage instructions and agree who handles storage after the visit.
Fit visits around your routine
One-off help, weekly preparation and several weekly visits need different arrangements. State days, meal times and the start. Batch cooking should fit planned use and storage capacity.
Compare labour and ingredients separately
Compare the same work per visit. Hourly or fixed prices may cover shopping, planning, cooking, portioning and tidying differently. Direct employment also needs clarification of employer duties. A local offer is not a national tariff.
| Item | Compare |
|---|---|
| Labour | Tasks and time |
| Ingredients | Already supplied or paid separately |
| Travel | Shopping and visit travel |
| Storage | Containers, portions and handover |
From enquiry to the first visit
Prepare people, meals per visit, tasks, ingredient supply and kitchen details. One brief can explain dishes, timing and practical preferences. Agree the menu, shopping and work directly afterwards.
Check results, quantities and billing after the first visit, then adjust later ones. An enquiry does not establish clinical dietary suitability or insurance reimbursement; those questions are outside an ordinary cooking quote.
Frequently asked questions
Are ingredients included?
Only if the quote says so. Shopping, ingredients and labour should be identifiable.
Can meals be prepared for several days?
Agree dishes, quantities, containers and storage. One fixed shelf life cannot be promised for all meals.
What does meals per visit mean?
The number of different meals prepared. The people count shows how many each is for; describe any differences in the brief.
Is the whole kitchen cleaned?
Agree this explicitly. Used utensils and work surfaces differ from general kitchen cleaning.
Can I help with cooking?
Yes, if agreed. Clarify responsibilities, support needed and timing.
Must I provide health records?
No. The enquiry describes food and tasks. Necessary details can be discussed privately later; clinical dietary advice is a separate service.
