Which laundry service meets your needs?
The amount matters, but so does how the laundry should come back. Washing and folding, careful ironing and caring for delicate individual items are different services. Regular contracts also need a comparison of transport and return schedules.
Washing, ironing or specialist textile care?
A laundry can handle the whole process or just iron items you have already washed. Labels such as standard service or laundry bag do not define everything included. Mechanical smoothing or steaming does not automatically mean careful ironing.
| Need | What to check |
|---|---|
| Everyday laundry | Washing, suitable drying and folding; check accepted textiles |
| Shirts and blouses | Ironing or steaming, on hangers or folded, item price |
| Bed and table linen | Distinguish covers from filled duvets and pillows; agree pressing and folding |
| Ironing only | Items supplied clean and the required finish, without ordering another wash |
| Delicate items | Material, care label and professional treatment to confirm before acceptance |
Keep kilograms and individual items separate
An approximate weight works for mixed, washable everyday laundry. Shirts, duvets, pillows and delicate pieces are often priced individually. For mixed orders, separate bulk laundry weight from the number of special items.
A full basket has no standard weight. Basket and bag deals may have their own size, fill or item limits. Check which weight is billed and whether extra bags or excluded textiles cost more. An estimate is enough for the initial request; you do not need to weigh every piece.
What makes up the price?
Compare the total for the same quantity and finish. Minimum orders, collection, delivery, express processing and specialist stain treatment may add to the laundry charge. A kilogram rate does not automatically include ironing or dry cleaning.
Two published regional examples checked in October 2026: washing and folding without ironing at CHF 6.20/kg; a separate service for older people in Küsnacht quotes CHF 9.00/kg including collection and delivery. Neither price explicitly states its VAT treatment. These are individual offers, not a Swiss market range or Quoti tariffs.
As a simple calculation, 5 kg at the first rate is CHF 31.00 for laundry alone. Transport and other charges still need checking. Compare the confirmed total for all the services you want.
Share care instructions and special requirements
Being washable is not the same as being safe to tumble-dry. Professional wet cleaning is also a distinct process, rather than an ordinary household wash programme.
Point out delicate materials, stains, damage and preferences such as fragrance-free processing. Mention treatments already attempted. Complete removal of every stain cannot be promised for every material. For valuable items, ask what treatment is possible and how any remaining risks will be agreed.
Businesses need to consider the whole laundry cycle
Hotels, restaurants, medical practices and care facilities have different textiles and workflows. Describe your own laundry, approximate volume per collection and seasonal peaks. Cleaning your laundry and additionally supplying rental linen are separate contractual services.
Where specific hygiene requirements apply, agree processing, separation of clean and dirty laundry and required records. Ordinary washing is not a blanket guarantee of disinfected or sterile textiles. Identification, traceability and replacement of missing items may matter as much as the kilogram rate.
Your available stock must cover the period between collection and return. For regular supply, also ask about holidays, disruption and short-notice increases in volume.
Make the job straightforward and comparable
Agree handover and return before ordering. Laundry collection, dropping items off yourself and help with laundry in your home are different services.
- Sort and describe. Identify textile types and special items, empty pockets and mention known stains or damage.
- Define the treatment. Specify washing, drying, ironing and how items should be returned.
- Confirm logistics. Agree the service area, appointments, transport charges and turnaround; do not assume express service.
- Check the return. Record special items at handover, then check completeness and the work on return.
Frequently asked questions
Must I weigh the laundry before requesting quotes?
No. An approximate quantity is enough initially. You can count items such as shirts or duvets. The final billing quantity is agreed with the service.
Is ironing always included?
No. Washing and folding, mechanical steaming and ironing may be separate offers. Explicitly request the finish you want.
Can I have already washed laundry ironed?
Yes, ironing-only services exist. State that the laundry is clean and whether you want to drop it off, have it collected or arrange help on site.
Are collection and delivery free?
That depends on the offer and service area. Transport may be included, charged separately or subject to a minimum order. Check both journeys and the total.
Can delicate textiles go in a standard laundry bag?
Not without checking. Many standard offers exclude certain materials and specialist professional care. Care labels and acceptance conditions determine which items need separate treatment.
