Choosing furniture lift hire for your building
An external furniture lift can avoid a difficult stairway. Its suitability and potential time savings depend on the site, the items and the complete handling operation.
When an external lift makes sense
A sofa will not fit up the stairs, a wardrobe needs to reach an upper floor or numerous boxes need moving: a furniture lift provides a route along the outside of the building. It does not remove the need to carry items to the platform and from the opening to their final position.
For a few manageable items, travel and installation may outweigh any saving. For bulky furniture, a lift may make the job feasible in the first place. Compare the entire operation with stairs or a suitable internal building lift.

A floor number is not enough
The company needs the floor, usable balcony or window, and space outside. Vehicle access, ground bearing capacity, supports and obstacles all affect positioning. Grass is not automatically a suitable base, and private land still needs a technical assessment.
Manufacturers specify different maximum payloads and reaches; examples include models rated at 250 kg or 400 kg. These headline limits do not approve your particular item in every setup. Dimensions, weight and equipment configuration must work together. A floor number cannot reliably be converted into a working height.
Compare hire and associated charges
One published Swiss tariff lists CHF 500 for four hours, including an operator and setup and dismantling, plus 8.1% VAT. That component is CHF 540.50 including tax. Travel is listed separately, and additional furniture handlers cost extra. This is neither a complete final price nor a market average.
Check whether hire time includes setup and dismantling, when overtime begins and which journeys are covered. Two sites may require extra travel and another setup. A day rate only makes sense when its duration and inclusions match your actual job.
Arrange standing space and responsibilities
If the lift or vehicle will occupy a public parking space, pavement or road, local rules need checking. Municipalities may require permission, parking reservations or barriers. A blanket statement that furniture lifts never need a permit would be unreliable.
Agree who makes enquiries, submits any applications and arranges signs. Private property may require the owner’s consent and clear access. Settle responsibilities and fees before the vehicle arrives.
An operator is not a complete moving team
The operator sets up and controls the equipment within the agreed service. That does not automatically provide enough people to carry, load, unload and position all the furniture. Confirm staffing on both levels and prepare access and items in advance.
Some firms offer equipment without an operator; others supply it only with staff. Ask about conditions and instruction rather than assuming an enquiry confirms suitability for self-operation. The firm must also define operating limits and arrangements for unsuitable weather or an unusable site. A furniture lift is not a passenger lift.
