Plan cosmetic manufacturing and documentation responsibilities
A line may use your formulation, a supplier base or new development. The commission may cover bulk material, filling or a packaged finished product. Align quantities, packaging, tests and records. Private Label or Full Service alone does not define included rights, safety tasks or deliverables.
Define formulation and manufacturing stage
Describe form and use, such as cleansing, hair or body care. New formulation, adaptation and manufacture of an approved formula differ. Agree samples, approval, usage and any exclusivity. An existing base does not automatically retain an unchanged assessment after modifications.
| Stage | Define handover |
|---|---|
| Development | Samples, target profile and approved inputs |
| Bulk material | Quantity, state, testing and transport container |
| Finished product | Fill contents, labels, packaging and records |
State variants and order quantities clearly
State the exact products or formulations. For defined production give total, unit and allocation. Jar count differs from bulk kilograms; add fill contents for finished goods. Open development does not need invented production quantities. Providers confirm suitable batches and process-specific minima rather than a universal cosmetics rule.
Coordinate ingredients and packaging
Agree ingredients, requested components and known exclusions. Fragrance, colour, texture and use are useful targets without personal illness details. Tubes, jars, pumps or sprays must fit formulation and filling. Define contents, closures, labels, cartons and responsibility for supplied packaging.
Assign safety assessment and records
For a commercial cosmetic, product information, safety reporting and manufacturing details are distinct tasks. Agree review of existing records, missing evidence and updates. Suitable qualified people perform assessment. A production quote confirms neither personal tolerance nor completeness of all sales records.
Distinguish manufacturing practice from testing
Good manufacturing practice concerns hygienic, controlled production. Swiss cosmetics compliance does not mean mandatory certification. Specifications, stability, microbiology and packaging compatibility are defined for the product. Agree testing, recorded results and deviations rather than a vague highest-quality promise.
Define destination and claims early
State markets and distribution. Ingredient rules, labels and tasks can vary by product and destination. Natural origin or familiar ingredients do not replace assessment. Care, performance or sun-protection claims need evidence; therapeutic claims are not ordinary cosmetic claims. Have labels and descriptions reviewed before printing.
Compare development and complete delivery
Development, samples, ingredients, bulk, setup, filling, tests, records, packaging and transport may be separate costs. Compare the same quantity, form and documentation tasks. Clarify leftovers, reserves and storage. Confirm approvals, change costs, delivery state and rights before production; filling-only is not a complete manufacturing offer.

Frequently asked questions
Must I disclose the entire formula?
A description is enough initially. Agree confidential transfer and rights later.
Does Private Label mean exclusivity?
No. Agree use of a base formula, changes and exclusivity.
Which quantity belongs in the request?
Total for this commission, unit, variants and fill contents. For open development state the goal first.
Is GMP certification always mandatory?
Swiss cosmetics rules require good manufacturing practice, not automatically certification. Clarify additional contractual requirements.
Does natural cosmetics guarantee personal tolerance?
No. Assess properties, safety and supported claims for the product, without personal medical advice.
Are safety records included in the unit price?
Only if agreed. Define preparation, review, updating and handover separately.
