Plan car park marking and compare complete quotes

Marking can cover a single visitor bay or the entire layout of a shared garage. Required lines and symbols, the existing surface and old markings define the work. Compare the agreed finished scope.

New markings, refreshing or a different layout?

Refreshing usually keeps the existing layout. A new arrangement needs coordination between parking bays, driving routes and areas to keep clear. Old lines may otherwise continue to suggest a different traffic route.

Removing existing markings is a separate job. Agree which lines should disappear and where new markings will follow. New marking does not automatically include removing the old layout.

Identify bays and additional markings separately

The bay count is a useful starting point but does not describe all the work. Angled bays, continuous lines and additional edges may involve different quantities. Numbers, arrows, text, symbols and hatched areas are separate items.

Describe known lettering and its purpose together. A visitor bay, loading area or route that must stay clear needs coordinated identification. An existing layout drawing helps; without one, the contractor can offer the necessary survey and layout work.

The surface determines the suitable installation

Asphalt, concrete, coated garage floors and paving have different requirements. Existing sealers or coatings can affect adhesion. State the known surface and visible residues without having to select the marking material yourself.

Agree cleaning, drying, preparation and any adhesion trial with the specialist. Marking does not repair cracks, spalling or an unsuitable floor coating. Define that preparation as a separate scope.

Removing old lines: agree the outcome first

The suitable removal process depends on the marking material and substrate. Traces or differences from the surrounding surface may remain visible. A completely unchanged floor is therefore not an automatic promise.

Clarify whether the old indication should simply be removed or a specific surface finish restored. Removal, waste treatment and new marking are distinct services. Painting over old lines is not a suitable and lasting solution for every substrate.

Organise vehicles, access and reopening

The work area must be accessible at the agreed time. Discuss moving vehicles with the manager or users and how access or some bays can remain in use during work.

The contractor defines suitable application conditions and when the surface can reopen. Weather, substrate and material can affect the schedule. A fixed drying time or immediate vehicle use does not apply to every system. Additional travel and setup for phased work should be clear in the quote.

Coordinate layout, markings and responsibilities

The layout must suit the available space, vehicles and necessary routes. Adding bays is not a useful objective if it compromises driving routes, access or getting in and out of vehicles.

Agree colours, symbols, dimensions and any local requirements with the appropriate professionals. Ground marking does not replace required signs or a necessary approval. Charging equipment, bollards or complete floor refurbishment are included only if expressly commissioned.

What affects car park marking prices?

For small jobs, travel, setup and preliminary layout marking can account for a significant share. For several bays, actual line lengths, number and type of inscriptions and materials also matter. Bay count alone is therefore not a complete price comparison.

Check preparation, removing old lines, protecting adjacent surfaces and working around ongoing use. A marking-only quote differs from a package including cleaning and removal.

Compare the same finished condition and ask for assumptions, extras and VAT to be clear. An isolated historical bid or the price of a tin of paint is not a reliable complete Swiss price per bay.

A useful request with a few clear details

Describe your required outcome. Materials can be agreed with the contractor; known quantities and conditions already help explain the project.

  • Task. State new marking, refreshing, a layout change or removal.
  • Quantity. Count affected bays and identify additional lines or symbols.
  • Substrate. State the known substrate and visible dirt or damage.
  • Appearance. Describe required lettering and available drawings together.
  • Organisation. Give the location, access, necessary phases and preferred date.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have just one bay marked?

Yes, individual bays or inscriptions can be requested. Travel and setup account for a proportionally larger share of small jobs. Include other required markings in the same request.

Do I need the exact line length?

No. State the affected bays and known additional markings. The contractor can survey the scope for a firm quote; known dimensions or an existing drawing help.

Is removing old lines included?

Only if expressly quoted. Clarify removal, preparation, new marking and any visible remaining traces separately.

Do I need a particular colour?

State the purpose and any existing requirements. Agree suitable colours, symbols and local requirements with the specialist and, where needed, the responsible authority.

When can vehicles use the surface again?

It depends on material, substrate and conditions during the work. The contractor should state when it can reopen. A general time or immediate use does not suit every system.

Can lines be refreshed on a damaged floor?

The contractor needs to assess the substrate. Cleaning, repair or changes to a coating may be required before marking and are not automatically included.
